I used to do this as a kid.

I still do it as an adult.

The Why Exercise:

Say a statement:
Example:  I want to ski

Ask yourself “why” then answer it:
Example:  Because it looks like fun

Ask yourself “why” then answer it:
Example:  Because people are smiling

Restate your original statement and add in the details:
Example:  Gosh, there are so many smiles, I think I’ll join the fun and ski

By asking yourself why, you’re pushing yourself to look more closely at details of the situation, or how you feel about the situation.

You can also ask why and use it as a dialogue by skipping saying the because part:

-You need to leave the house
-I need space
-I’m having a hard time
-My cactus is dying….
